The Chinese car market is distinguished by its vast scale, rapid development, and intense competition. However, size does not always equate to quality. Therefore, determining which passenger cars are the most reliable and trouble-free in the domestic market has always been a point of interest. For this purpose, the China Automotive Quality Net — a Chinese automotive quality network — compiled a quality ranking of passenger cars manufactured at local factories.
The ranking results were both expected and surprising. The top position was secured by the Audi Q6 model. It is produced at the SAIC–Volkswagen joint venture and has received very few negative reviews from users. As a result, the Audi Q6 accumulated just 140 "penalty" points, making it the leader of the ranking. This figure indicates that the vehicle has very few defects.
Second and third places were taken by Honda models. Specifically, the Honda UR-V scored 142 points to secure second place, while the Honda XR-V followed closely with 143 points to take third place. Both models are manufactured at the Honda–Dongfeng joint venture. Experts associate this outcome with Honda's longstanding reputation for reliability in the Chinese market.
In fourth place was another Audi model — the Q2L. Produced by the FAW–Volkswagen joint venture, this crossover retained a high position in the ranking with 145 "penalty" points. Fifth place went to the Honda Avancier. Manufactured at the Honda–GAC plant, this model scored 146 points, completing the top five in quality.
Notably, this ranking is entirely based on cars manufactured in China and reflects the opinions and complaints of Chinese consumers. However, none of the national Chinese brands are at the top of the list. All leading positions are occupied by models produced in joint ventures with foreign brands.
This situation is being perceived as a serious signal for China's automotive industry. On the one hand, it demonstrates that the local manufacturing infrastructure is performing at a high level. On the other hand, it makes it evident that national brands are still lagging behind the leaders in terms of quality.
Summary: While there are many cars in China, quality still depends on name and experience. For national brands to climb to higher positions, they will need to step on the "gas pedal" a little harder.
