Abandoned Renault Twingo modified for rally

Eric Troestler, a Frenchman living in London, read an article in a car magazine about the "Twing Raid" rally for first-generation Renault Twingo cars. Although he had never driven a Twingo, the idea intrigued him. As fate would have it, a week later, a friend in France gifted him a 1999 Renault Twingo that had been abandoned for six years. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports.
Eric decided to participate in the 10-day adventure from Spain to Marrakech, Morocco, with this car. About 450 Renault Twingo vehicles took part in the rally. Eric's brother came to help adapt the car for racing conditions. They decided not to touch the 1149cc engine due to its reliability.
The main changes focused on increasing the car's durability. His brother installed skid plates on the front and rear, and raised the suspension by 5 cm at the front and 6 cm at the rear. Also, the 13-inch wheels were replaced with more robust 14-inch tires.
Serious changes were also made inside the cabin. The rear seats were removed and replaced with two spare wheels, fire extinguishers, and necessary tools. Under the trunk floor, a special space was prepared for spare parts and repair kits needed for the long journey by Eric and his companion Adam White.
