AI cameras to be increased in the UK to ensure road safety

Jamie Hassall, head of a leading UK transport safety organization, has proposed increasing fines to reduce traffic violations among drivers. According to him, the collected funds should be directed toward expanding a network of modern cameras equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) on roads. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports .
New-generation AI cameras use high-resolution imaging and fast processors to detect not only speeding but also violations such as using a phone while driving or not wearing a seatbelt. The system can also automatically check the vehicle's tax and insurance status via police databases.
According to statistics, nearly 200,000 drivers are prosecuted annually for speeding. Hassall proposes strengthening road safety by increasing fines from £100 to £500, making it more likely that offenders will be caught.
Experts believe that increasing drivers' confidence that they will be punished for violations is a more effective tool than simply raising fine amounts. Although the government has not yet made an official decision on increasing fines, it is considering other methods to combat traffic offenders.
