In January-September of this year, Uzbekistan exported approximately $630 million worth of natural gas to China via pipeline, TASS reported, citing data from the Chinese Customs Administration.
According to reports, Russia leads among the countries supplying gas to China via pipeline. Its volume of deliveries since the beginning of the year amounted to $7.29 billion. This is almost 19% more than in the same period last year.
Turkmenistan is in second place after Russia. It has been China's main gas supplier for many years. However, this year's figure decreased by 12.7% and reached $6.46 billion.
Myanmar also supplied $1.18 billion worth of gas, and Kazakhstan - $854.7 million. Uzbekistan's share is about $629.8 million, making the country the fifth largest supplier.
In recent years, Chinese customs have stopped providing information about the physical volume of gas coming through the pipeline - that is, how many billions of cubic meters. Therefore, analysts prefer comparisons based on financial volume rather than quantitative data.
China's total gas imports amounted to $21.1 billion in 2024. This is 8.6% more than last year. The volume of gas coming from Russia also increased significantly - by 25%, reaching $8.03 billion.
According to experts, these figures are related to China's policy of diversifying energy security. It is trying to maintain cooperation with the countries of Central Asia so that the country does not become dependent on one source. Thus, there is a high probability that new export opportunities will open up for Uzbekistan.
Officials noted that in the coming years, Uzbekistan plans to expand cooperation with neighboring countries in the gas sector and ensure the stability of the domestic market. By doing so, the country aims not only to meet domestic needs but also to strengthen its position as an important exporter in the region.
