The passion for tropical fruits, particularly bananas, is reaching a new level in our country. According to a new report provided by the Statistics Agency for 2026, banana import figures for the first three months of the current year (January–March) have increased significantly.
What do the numbers say?
In the first quarter of the current year, Uzbekistan imported a total of 9 countries a total of 69 thousand tons of bananas. The total value of this massive volume of products amounted to nearly 20.4 million USD .
It is noteworthy that compared to the same period last year, the import volume has increased by 21.3 thousand tons or by nearly 44.7 percent . This indicates how high the demand for foreign fruits is in our consumer market.
Main suppliers: Who is leading?
Traditionally, Ecuador holds absolute leadership in supplying the Uzbekistan market with bananas. Below you can see the figures for the largest exporting countries as of the beginning of 2026 (Tashkent time):
Country name | Volume supplied (in tons) |
Ecuador | 53.5 thousand |
China | 11.1 thousand |
Turkey | 3.4 thousand |
Russia | 404.3 |
Others | 555.8 |
As you can see, China and Turkey follow Ecuador. Although the volume of products imported from Russia is relatively smaller, it still holds its place.
Such rapid growth in consumption is expected to help keep this product affordable and accessible in markets throughout the year.
In your opinion, will the increase in banana imports affect the prices of our local fruits?
