A scientific team consisting of international researchers from China and the USA has found that regular tea consumption affects the risk of liver cancer. The research results were published in the journal Nutrients.
The study involved 2000 patients with liver cancer and about 8000 people without the disease. In this study, participants' daily habits were compared, including drinking tea, the presence of hepatitis B and C viruses, alcohol consumption, smoking, and the quality of drinking water. According to the research results, the number of people with liver cancer among those who regularly drank tea was 49% lower than among those who did not.
A slight increase in risk was also observed in people who quit drinking tea. It should be noted that the protective effect of drinking tea was especially noticeable among those who consumed alcoholic beverages. Drinking tea has almost halved the risk of liver cancer. The authors of the study emphasize that antioxidants and polyphenols in tea play a key role in these processes.
