According to the latest report of the World Health Organization, the number of cases of malaria and deaths from it is growing again in the world.
In 2024, 282 million people were affected by malaria - 9 million more than the previous year. As a result of the disease, 610,000 patients died, and the number of deaths increased by 12,000 compared to last year.
Where is the disease spreading the most?
The epidemic was mainly recorded in 11 African countries. This region accounts for two-thirds of malaria deaths.
Why is the situation getting worse despite the availability of medicines?
Although there are currently effective anti-malarial drugs, prevention methods, and even two new vaccines available, the WHO says the problem is different:
- International financing is insufficient.
- Many countries are unable to implement large-scale preventive and vaccination programs.
Experts emphasize that vaccination can save tens of thousands of children's lives every year.
WHO calls on states to take action
The Organization invites all countries to:
- allocation of additional funds to combat malaria,
- Expansion of vaccination programs,
- called for increased prevention.
