
Videos of a Lacetti car hitting several pedestrians in Samarkand have been widely shared on social media. The Samarkand Regional Department of Internal Affairs has issued an official statement on the incident.
According to information, the traffic accident occurred on April 11 at 8:00 PM on Rudaki Street in the Nurli Yul neighborhood of Samarkand. A Lacetti car driven by a citizen born in 1997 ran over a group of people crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing.
The video footage shows several cars stopping to give way to pedestrians, but the driver of the Lacetti drove at high speed and hit several citizens, including children, who were crossing the road. The car then drove onto the opposite side of the road.
All pedestrians who were injured in the accident were immediately taken to the hospital and provided with medical assistance.
Currently, the Investigation Department under the Federal Board of Internal Affairs of the Samarkand city has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (violation of the rules for the movement or safety of vehicles). The driver has been taken into custody and preliminary investigation is ongoing.
According to the law, a person found guilty under this article may be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and deprived of certain rights. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
