Former Deputy Minister Bekmurod Abdullayev released on bail

It has become known that Bekmurod Abdullayev, the former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, who was suspected in a case involving the embezzlement of large amounts of budget funds, has been released.
According to a Kun.uz source, after he reimbursed more than 200 billion soums of damage caused within the framework of the case in cash, the preventive measure of detention was replaced with bail.
According to reports, Abdullayev, who holds the rank of Major General, served in responsible positions in the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the National Guard at various times. In April 2021, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.
In November 2025, news spread that he had been dismissed from his post. In January 2026, it was announced that a criminal case had been opened against Abdullayev and the former head of the Department for Execution of Punishments, Rustam Tursunov. They were detained on suspicion of major financial irregularities in the state procurement system.
According to official information, it was confirmed during a video-selector meeting attended by the President that approximately 186 billion soums of damage were caused to the state budget within this case.
Currently, Rustam Tursunov remains in custody. As for Abdullayev, his preventive measure has been changed to bail, and he is participating in the investigation process while remaining free.
