On May 19, an unusual incident occurred involving a Centrum Air Airbus A330 aircraft en route from Tashkent to Urgench. It was reported that the aircraft was struck by lightning during the flight. While such incidents are not uncommon in aviation, aircraft safety is always the top priority.
Consequently, the Airbus A330 was temporarily removed from service and sent for technical inspection and maintenance. Experts must inspect all critical systems to confirm the aircraft fully meets safety requirements. Naturally, this caused some changes and delays in the airline's flight schedule.
The impact was felt most by passengers on flight C6089. Because a smaller Airbus A320 was substituted for the scheduled Airbus A330, 40 passengers were unable to board. This caused clear inconvenience for the passengers, as everyone has their own plans, time constraints, and destinations.
Centrum Air offered several solutions for the affected passengers. They were given the option of a full ticket refund or rebooking on any airline flight with hotel accommodation provided. The airline explored alternative ways to mitigate the situation and get passengers to their destinations.
In addition, Centrum Air is providing these 40 passengers with extra bonuses. They can use a 50% discount for a future flight. Furthermore, premium seating and additional baggage allowance have been offered as compensation.
Of course, such situations affect passenger morale. Flight delays or being unable to board are unpleasant for anyone. However, in aviation, safety always takes precedence over time and schedules. Re-inspecting the aircraft after a lightning strike is a correct and necessary decision.
In short, this incident involving the Centrum Air aircraft caused disruptions to the airline's schedule, and some passengers were unable to take their planned flight. However, the carrier is trying to mitigate the situation by offering refunds, rebooking, and additional benefits. Most importantly, safety remains the priority here — there is no room for "we'll see later" in aviation.
