Los Angeles 2028: The number of football teams at the Olympics has changed - fewer men, more women
The preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, USA, are in full swing. A number of new features have been noted in the list of competitions. The most notable of them is the change in the number of football teams.

In particular, in accordance with the new decision, the number of men's national teams has been reduced from 16 to 12. In return, the quota allocated for women's teams has been increased from 12 to 16. This was officially announced by the press service of the National Olympic Committee.

It should be recalled that at the last Olympic Games - the 2024 Paris Olympics - the situation was the opposite. Then 16 teams for men and 12 for women participated. Now, FIFA and the International Olympic Committee are significantly increasing the attention paid to women's football.

Here's an interesting fact for our fans: Uzbekistan's U-23 national team also participated in the 2024 Olympics. Led by Temur Kapadze, the youngsters played against Spain, Egypt, and the Dominican Republic, and unfortunately finished the group stage with 1 point.

Now all eyes are on 2028. Will Uzbekistan be able to take its place among the new opportunities opened up for women's national teams? Time will tell.
