Flick: “Lamine Yamal can reach Messi and Ronaldo’s level, but...”

Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick shared his thoughts on the team’s young star, 17-year-old Lamine Yamal. The German specialist explained what the player should focus on in order to reach the level of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the future.

“If you are capable of playing at a high level, first of all, you must also know how to maintain that level. Showing brilliance in just one specific game is not enough. Lamine understands and knows this very well,” Flick emphasized.

According to the coach, the young player should not rely solely on his natural talent — he must work hard and consistently in training.

“Lamine Yamal should not just rely on his great potential. He needs to work more on himself, to constantly develop his skills. If he wants to be among the world-class players like Messi and Ronaldo, then not only hard work is needed, but also inner calmness,” explained the Barcelona manager.

In Flick’s opinion, it is satisfying that Yamal is already playing at a high level despite his age, but the desire to achieve more should not be forgotten.

“We are certainly happy that Lamine is showing such a high level at a young age. But he must not settle for what he has now. He should understand that there is a long road ahead, and the most important thing on that road is continuous effort,” Flick said. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
