The city of Tashkent is once again hosting an important international football tournament. This week, the CAFA U-17 tournament kicks off in our capital, and this competition will undoubtedly go down in history as another important event in the football life of our country. A traditional press conference was held ahead of the tournament. Uzbekistan U-16 national team head coach Sergey Chigodayev took part in it and spoke about the team’s preparation, goals, and hopes.
According to the specialist, the CAFA tournament is a very useful preparation platform for the team. “We are happy to see the national teams participating in the tournament here in Tashkent. This tournament is an important stage of preparation for the Asian Cup. It is naturally beneficial not only for us but for the other teams as well,” said Chigodayev.
The players’ condition — in the spotlight
In the coach’s opinion, players at this age can be in different physical and mental conditions. But the coaching staff has taken all these factors into account during preparation. “We had more time to prepare than other teams. We used this opportunity wisely. We carried out physical, mental, and tactical preparation in a comprehensive manner. Mental stability is a crucial factor at this age, and we worked with that in mind,” noted the specialist.
Three matches in a week — not a problem
The CAFA U-17 tournament schedule includes three matches in one week. This could raise questions about the players’ physical endurance. However, according to the coach, the team is ready. “After our first match, we’ll have three days to prepare for the next one. That’s enough. All conditions are provided — recovery tools, medical support, specialists. We have no problems in this regard,” he said.
Every player will get a chance
Sergey Chigodayev also spoke about rotation in the team. According to him, all 20 footballers registered for the tournament will be given opportunities. “These kinds of matches help young players gain international match experience. They learn how to perform under pressure, within the match rhythm, and with fans watching. We are focusing on that,” he said.
Natural grass — a comfortable environment for players
Unlike previous tournaments held in Tajikistan on artificial turf, this tournament will be played on natural grass pitches in Tashkent. This is a big advantage for players. “The chance of injury on natural turf is lower. Players move more freely. It benefits both health and quality of play,” said Chigodayev. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
