Jelicic explains reasons after Lokomotiv defeat

Lokomotiv started their Uzbekistan Cup campaign on a sour note. The Tashkent club traveled to face Pro League side Lochin and suffered a 0-1 defeat. After the match, head coach Mirko Jelicic shared his thoughts on the game.

The expert first praised the opponent's performance. He noted that Lochin players were physically well-prepared, active in duels, and made effective use of their opportunities on the pitch.

"You have to give credit to the opponent. They played good physical football. We were prepared for the duels, taking that into account. It is painful to lose. It means we were not mentally ready for this game. We improved significantly in the second half, but it wasn't enough. Our quality of play was not what we wanted," said Jelicic.

It is clear from the coach's words that Lokomotiv tried to change the game in the second half. However, their attacking activity and pressure did not result in a goal. In cup matches, a single mistake can decide the fate of the entire game. That is exactly what happened this time.

Jelicic also commented on Lochin's defense. He emphasized that the opposing team was fast, physically strong, and ready for the battles. Lokomotiv had chances, but lacked precision in finishing.

"Good, not bad. They have speed, they fought well. We had many situations, but they didn't concede. In one situation, a foul should have been called, but it wasn't. The physically strong players fought well," the expert added.

The increasing number of goals conceded by Lokomotiv this season is also raising questions. Jelicic focused on team play, the unpredictability of the opponent's actions, and problems with set-pieces.

He said it is easy to draw conclusions based on conceded goals, but there are many details within the game. The coach emphasized that every player on the team is responsible for their position and duties.

"We are playing a team game. You cannot read all of the opponent's moves. It is easy to look at the goals conceded. However, based on the game itself, many facets are being revealed. All players in our squad are responsible for their spots. Half of our conceded goals come from set-pieces. This is not good. We are trying to improve this aspect. It requires more hard work," said the Lokomotiv manager.

Jelicic also spoke about the opportunity to return to the international stage through the cup. In his opinion, every team in the Uzbekistan Cup has a chance. In this competition, it is not the names that matter, but the preparation, character, and the quality of play on the day.

"Everyone has a chance in this competition, even Lochin. You can draw any opponent in the cup. The most important thing is these three matches. Some teams might feel signs of fatigue after these games, and unexpected results can occur. This can negate all the hard work done," the coach opined.

Overall, this defeat is a serious signal for Lokomotiv. Mistakes are not forgiven in the cup, especially with the goal of reaching the international stage. The team must now improve not only results but also mental preparation, defensive confidence, and discipline in set-piece situations in upcoming matches. The road in the cup is not over, but every match will now be played in 'final mode'.
