There was once again a sincere exchange of congratulations between the leaders of the brotherly countries. The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, sent a heartfelt congratulation to the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on the occasion of the national football team’s qualification for the final stage of the 2026 World Cup, azertag.az reports.
Ilham Aliyev began the official meeting with this important event, congratulating Mirziyoyev both personally and on behalf of the entire Azerbaijani people, and especially highlighting the significance of this achievement. According to him, the participation of the Uzbekistan national team in the World Cup is by no means accidental — it is the continuation of powerful and consistent successes of Uzbek athletes on the international stage.
President Aliyev also recalled the achievements of Uzbek athletes at the Summer Olympic Games and other prestigious competitions, noting that these victories have a positive impact on the country’s image and reputation. According to him, it is precisely such achievements that take national sports to a new level.
"Starting our meeting today, first of all, I congratulated the esteemed Shavkat Miromonovich on behalf of myself and the entire Azerbaijani people for the historic achievement — the national football team's qualification for the World Cup final stage, and emphasized that this success is not accidental. It is a continuation of the brilliant sporting victories of Uzbek athletes on the international stage, including historic successes at the Summer Olympic Games," said Aliyev.
It should be recalled that earlier this year, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also congratulated Ilham Aliyev on the victory at the mini-football world championship. This tradition is yet another vivid example of the sincere friendship and support between the leaders and peoples of the two countries.
The participation of Uzbekistan's national team in the 2026 World Cup is opening a new page not only in sports, but also in the country’s history. At this important stage, congratulations and recognition from friendly states and the sports community naturally provide Uzbek footballers with extra spirit and inspiration.
In the coming years, these international successes will undoubtedly become motivation for many young people and further develop the national sports movement. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
