In Catalonia’s most famous club, Barcelona, one of the topics that has sparked lively discussion among fans in recent weeks — the situation regarding goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen’s captaincy — has finally been clarified. Club president Joan Laporta gave an official statement on the matter.
According to Laporta, the German shot-stopper will, without any doubt, remain the team’s main captain. “The previous disagreements are now a thing of the past. Marc has once again shown on the pitch that he is a true leader, and the fans have witnessed it with their own eyes. He has played for the club with loyalty for 11 years, and I am truly glad to see him return to his captaincy duties,” said Laporta.
The president also mentioned certain factors related to Ter Stegen’s health. He stated that if the La Liga medical commission grants permission, Barcelona intends to additionally register Joan García. This is particularly important to ensure stability in the goalkeeper position throughout the season.
Laporta also informed fans about the remaining transfer business. He stressed that even if all deals are not completed by the first matchday, the club still has enough time and the process will continue without stopping.
It should be noted that Ter Stegen recently underwent surgery due to a spinal injury. During this process, he refused to sign certain documents required by the La Liga medical commission. This situation caused some issues in registering the new goalkeeper, Joan García. As a result, Ter Stegen temporarily had his captain’s armband taken away, but later all disagreements were resolved, and he regained his captaincy honor.
Now, Barcelona fans are happy to see their leader once again holding the captain’s status, and naturally, expectations for the club in the upcoming season have increased even more.
