After the defeat in the CAFA-2025 final against the national team of Uzbekistan (1:0), the head coach of the Iran national team Amir Ghalenoei came under serious criticism in his homeland.
Before the WC-2026 qualifiers and the CAFA-2025 tournament, many Iranian journalists had already demanded Ghalenoei’s resignation at press conferences. The defeat in the final further fueled the wave of criticism. Now not only journalists but also ordinary fans are demanding that the coach leave his position.
According to reports, on September 8 in Iran, a special petition was opened with the demand for Amir Ghalenoei to resign from the position of head coach of the national team. In two days, more than 38 thousand fans signed it.
The publication «Persian Soccer» noted that since Ghalenoei became the coach of the Iran national team, he has still not been able to defeat the Uzbekistan national team.
