Another renowned coach in the football world has changed direction - experienced Spanish specialist Rafael Benítez has now taken charge of the renowned Greek club Panathinaikos. This was reported by Sport24.gr.
According to reports, the 65-year-old Benitez and his assistants have already arrived in Athens. The club is expected to officially announce his appointment on Saturday. This appointment generated significant interest not only in Greek football but also at the European level - as Benitez is known for his rich experience and successful career.
According to De Telegraaf, Benitez earns an annual salary of €4 million at Panathinaikos - an absolute record in the Greek league. This figure also indicates the club's new strategy - to bring the team back to European competitions through an internationally experienced coach.
As a reminder, Benítez's last workplace was the Spanish club Celta Vigo (season 2023/24). There he led the team in a highly competitive environment during a short career. Before him, Benitez worked for leading European clubs such as Everton, Newcastle United, Real Madrid, Napoli, Inter Milan, and Valencia, leaving a unique mark on each.
Among the coach's most brilliant achievements are winning the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, La Liga with Valencia, and the Coppa Italia with Napoli.
Therefore, Panathinaikos's appointment of Benitez is considered a new stage in Greek football. The club's management hopes that through his experience, he will achieve high results not only in the national championship but also in the European arena.
Football analysts emphasize that Panathinaikos can be completely restructured under Benitez's leadership, both in terms of team discipline and tactics. The Spanish specialist is always distinguished by his systematic defensive play and a style based on deep analysis.
Greek football fans are eagerly awaiting the new season - after the arrival of a renowned coach like Benitez, new achievements and high goals are expected from Panathinaikos.
