
In the ninth round of Serie A, Cagliari hosted Sassuolo on their home ground. At the start of the match, both teams did not show much activity for a considerable time. 
The only dangerous moment of the first half occurred in the 28th minute, but the goal scored by Sebastiano Esposito was disallowed for offside. In the 54th minute, Arman Llorente scored from a free kick, opening the scoring for the visitors — 0:1. 
Soon after, Gennaro Borrelli hit the ball against the crossbar. In the 65th minute, Andrea Pinamonti took a precise shot from inside the penalty area to make it 2:0 for Sassuolo. 
In the 73rd minute, Sebastiano Esposito brought hope to the hosts by reducing the score to 1:2. At the end, Kristian Volpato hit the post, but the score did not change. 
With this, Sassuolo secured their third win in the last five matches, moving up to 9th place in the standings with 13 points. Cagliari, meanwhile, failed to win for the fifth match in a row and remained in 14th place with 9 points.
