A new debate has begun on the European football fields. According to the decision made at the meeting of the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), the organization officially appealed to UEFA with a request to exclude Israeli clubs from European competitions. This was reported by Sky News.
According to the FAI, the participation of Israeli teams in tournaments contradicts UEFA regulations. The Association also accused the Israel Football Federation of "not pursuing an effective anti-racism policy." Israel denied these accusations and stated that it considers its position legitimate.
The resolution, adopted by the FAI, was supported by 74 votes. 7 people opposed it, and 2 others abstained. According to the decision, Israeli clubs were operating in Palestinian-controlled territories without the consent of the Palestinian Football Association, which contradicts international sports rules.
Interestingly, the initiative was first put forward by the Dublin club "Bogemian." They expressed their intention to demand justice and peace in Europe through football.
UEFA has not yet issued an official statement on this matter. However, according to sports analysts, if this appeal is seriously considered, it could cause significant debate and controversy in European football policy.
It should be recalled that in recent months, the issue of Israel's participation in international competitions has been raised several times in the sports world. Some countries believe that there is no place for politics in sports, while others argue that actions against civilians should also affect sports.
Now all eyes are focused on how the UEFA decision will turn out - this issue could become an important test not only in sports but also in the diplomatic arena.
