Serbia Secures Hard-Fought Victory Over Latvia

The Serbian national team, despite losing their chance to qualify for the final stage of the World Cup, hosted the Latvian team. In the 12th minute, Lukas Vapne delivered a cross from the right wing, allowing Vladislav Gutkovskiy to beat his defender and open the scoring — 0:1.

Later, Gutkovskiy capitalized on a mistake by Lazar Samardzic, gained possession in the penalty area, and took a shot from 15 meters. However, the goalkeeper managed to save the ball just under the post. In the subsequent attack, Vapne fired a strong shot, but once again, the goalkeeper saved his team.

Although Vapne attempted a follow-up shot, the goalkeeper showcased his skills yet again. Nemanja Radonjic advanced from the left wing into the penalty area and struck a powerful shot, but the goalkeeper once more managed to block the ball.

After a corner kick, Sasa Lukic attempted a shot from 18 meters, but the goalkeeper saved once again. In another situation, Marko Grujic’s pass to the far corner was cleared by a Latvian defender.

In the 49th minute, Andrija Zivkovic entered the penalty area following Luka Jovic’s pass and set up Aleksandar Katai. Katai equalized with a 12-meter strike — 1:1.

Soon after, Zivkovic delivered a cross from the right wing into the penalty area, where Aleksandar Stankovic headed it into the near post, turning the score to 2:1. Following another cross from Stankovic, Ognen Mimovic received the ball in the penalty area and took a shot, but the ball went wide of the post.

Jovic attempted a header from Stankovic’s corner kick, but Lazar Samardzic failed to score. During a corner kick delivered by Lukas Vapne, Vitaliy Jagodinskij aimed a header, but the ball went past the goal.

Zivkovic managed to break past the central line to face the goalkeeper one-on-one and took a shot, but the goalkeeper once again saved his team. Despite this victory, Serbia remains in third place, while Latvia stays in fourth.
