In 2025, due to television broadcast agreements and the expansion of European competitions, the English Premier League will host only one match on Boxing Day. On December 26, traditionally known as the day of gift-giving, "Manchester United" and "Newcastle" will take the field.
This year, because Boxing Day falls on a Friday, the league round was supposed to take place on a Saturday according to the broadcasting contract. Back in 2014, even though Boxing Day was also on a Friday, all 10 EPL matches were held.
However, those times are now a thing of the past. Football fans often recall the historic Boxing Day of 1963.
On that day, 10 out of 11 top-division matches were played, with an astounding total of 66 goals scored – an average of 6.6 goals per game. It was a true football celebration, with the following results: "Blackpool" 1–5 "Chelsea," "Burnley" 6–1 "Manchester United," "Fulham" 10–1 "Ipswich," "Leicester" 2–0 "Everton," "Liverpool" 6–1 "Stoke City," "Nottingham Forest" 3–3 "Sheffield United," "Sheffield Wednesday" 3–0 "Bolton," "West Bromwich" 4–4 "Tottenham," "West Ham" 2–8 "Blackburn," and "Wolverhampton" 3–3 "Aston Villa."
The "Manchester United" vs. "Newcastle" match will be available to follow via a live text broadcast. Read “Zamin” on Telegram!
