Interest in football’s biggest celebration — the 2026 World Cup — has reached an unprecedented level. FIFA President Gianni Infantino officially announced this.
According to him, demand for tickets to the group-stage matches has already broken records. Infantino noted that FIFA has already received more than 150 million applications.
“In just 15 days, we received over 150 million requests from around the world to buy World Cup tickets. During the pre-registration process, an average of 10 million applications were recorded each day. This is an unprecedented figure in football history,” Infantino said.
According to the FIFA chief, the strongest interest in tickets came from fans in the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom. This clearly shows how significant the tournament is on a global scale.
It is worth noting that the 2026 World Cup will be held for the first time across three countries at once — the United States, Mexico and Canada. The number of participants has also been increased, with 48 national teams taking part.
Experts believe that the increase in participants, the expanded geography of stadiums and worldwide interest in football could make World Cup 2026 the most widely attended tournament in history. The huge demand for tickets shows these forecasts are well founded.
