Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone spoke after the team's heavy defeat (0:3) against Rayo Vallecano in the 24th round of the Spanish Championship. This time, as usual, the coach spoke the truth without any mincing words: the stronger team on the field won.
Simeone noted that Rayo looked much better in the match, while Atletico could hardly create anything.
"They were stronger than us, and we had very few chances in practice. It's not about intensity or desire. We played very badly, and they did better. That's why they had more chances.
We didn't have good passing or passing. They deserved to win more," Simeone was quoted as saying by Marca.
One thing is clear from the coach's words: he didn't cover up the defeat as "bad luck" or "coincidence." On the contrary, he clearly showed the team's main problems - the quick passes didn't work, the decisive passes weren't precise, and as a result, the attack wasn't effective.
For your information, after 24 rounds in La Liga, Atletico Madrid is in 3rd place in the standings with 45 points. Rayo Vallecano is in 17th place with 25 points after 23 games.
In short, even though Atletico is at the top of the table, the "name on paper" didn't work in Vallecas - football on the field was the deciding factor. Now the most important task for Simeone is to draw the right conclusions from this defeat and quickly return the team to its former form. Because in the race for the top places, such nights cannot be tolerated too much.
