James Maddison says VAR has made referees afraid to make decisions

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has heavily criticized Premier League referees. He believes the VAR system has made officials afraid to make independent decisions on the pitch. This is reported by Goal.com reporting .
In the final minutes of the match against Leeds United, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Maddison went down inside the opponent's penalty area. Referee Jarred Gillett ruled no penalty, and VAR confirmed the decision. Maddison insisted the defender did not touch the ball and stated that referees are avoiding responsibility due to VAR.
This draw was a heavy blow for Tottenham. Roberto De Zerbi's side currently sits in 17th place with 38 points and continues to fight for survival. Their main rival, West Ham, is in 18th place with 36 points.
Until the end of the season, Tottenham faces difficult matches against Chelsea and Everton. The team must fight for every point to remain in the Premier League.
