James Maddison returns to the pitch after a 375-day break

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has returned to top-flight football after a long-term injury. The England international stepped onto the pitch on Monday in a 1-1 draw against Leeds after a 375-day absence, as reported by Goal.com .
Maddison stated that his recovery process was complicated by an initial misdiagnosis. The player, who injured his knee during the Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt in May 2025, was initially told he did not require surgery. However, after rehabilitation proved ineffective, he had to undergo complex surgery in South Korea.
The footballer called this period one of the most difficult of his career. According to him, overcoming the mental struggle was much harder than the physical recovery. Nevertheless, Maddison emphasized that he currently feels very good physically and is happy to be back on the pitch.
Tottenham fans gave their playmaker a very warm welcome at the stadium. Despite the team's current difficult situation, Maddison's return is a significant event for the club. He is now focused on helping the team and regaining his match fitness.
