Apple has urgently shipped 600 tons of iPhones — approximately 1.5 million units — from India to the U.S. via cargo planes to avoid incoming American tariffs that could raise smartphone prices, BBC reported.
According to Reuters, the devices were flown out through Chennai airport using special cargo flights. Apple successfully lobbied for fast-track customs clearance — reducing processing time from 30 hours to just 6.
The company also ramped up production at its Indian plants to ship as many devices as possible before the tariffs took effect. At Foxconn India, factories operated without weekends.
Since March, about six cargo flights have transported 100 tons each, with shipments heading to major U.S. cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.
According to Counterpoint Research, India now accounts for 20% of all iPhones shipped to the U.S., with the rest coming from China.
