Threads Users Can Now Chat with Meta AI in Direct Messages

Meta has begun integrating its AI-powered chatbot, Meta AI, into the direct messaging (DM) section of the Threads app. This update gives users the ability to chat directly with the assistant in their private messages, significantly expanding the platform's capabilities. According to ixbt.com, previously Threads users could only interact with the AI under public posts in select countries. Now, this process is moving to a fully private and convenient format. This step is part of Meta's strategy to keep its users from turning to alternative services.

Experts note that the new integration allows users to stay within the ecosystem without having to resort to third-party assistants like OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google Gemini. Meta AI is already successfully operating in the private messaging sections of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The new feature allows users to share Threads posts, various links, images, and videos directly with Meta AI. It also provides the opportunity to ask follow-up questions on topics of interest and conduct deeper data analysis.

Global Rollout and Management

Company representatives stated that the update has begun rolling out worldwide in phases starting Monday. At the same time, Meta continues to test AI in public feeds in selected regions.

If users want to see fewer Meta AI responses in their feeds, they can mute the @meta.ai account, use the "Not Interested" feature on relevant posts, or hide responses appearing on their own posts. Through these updates, Meta aims to give Threads users all the necessary information without leaving the app in its competition with its main rival, the X platform.
