In Germany, Europe's most powerful supercomputer - Jupiter - was launched. The ceremony took place in the country's city of Yulikh. The new system is based on modern Nvidia processors and is capable of performing one quintillion computing operations per second. It was noted that this figure is approximately equal to the total capacity of 10 million ordinary laptops.
The Jupiter supercomputer is of strategic importance for Europe. The project was developed jointly by the French IT group Atos and the German company ParTec. German Chancellor Friedrich Mers attended its opening, noting that this effort will increase Europe's ability to compete in the field of artificial intelligence with countries such as the USA and China.
The areas of application of supercomputers are very wide. In particular, Jupiter is planned to be used in biotechnology, climate change research, medical analysis, science, and scientific research. With its help, new opportunities will be created in genetics, drug development, and analysis of global environmental problems.
