According to the Associated Press, YouTube will pay $24.5 million to settle the lawsuit related to the blocking of US President Donald Trump's account.
According to the agreement, $22 million will be allocated to the Trust for the Nation Mall organization for the construction of a ballroom in the White House. The remaining funds will be distributed to the plaintiffs involved in the case, including writer Naomi Woolf and the American Conservative Union.
Alphabet, the owner of YouTube, became the third largest IT company to reach an agreement with Trump. In January, Meta Platforms closed the lawsuit by paying $25 million, and X (formerly Twitter) - $10 million.
For reference: Trump's Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter accounts were temporarily blocked following the events of January 6, 2021. His supporters then opposed the election results and stormed the Capitol building, and social media viewed Trump's posts as supporting the movement.
