Russia to start supplying RISC-V chips for cars in 2026

The Research Institute of Electronic Technology, part of Russia's "Element" group of companies, plans to supply new microcontrollers for the transport sector. The first batch of these devices is expected to enter the market in the fourth quarter of 2026. Ixbt.com reports on this.
The new development is a 32-bit microcontroller built on the RISC-V architecture, which is an open platform and does not require licensing. Currently, this chip is undergoing testing at a major customer enterprise in Russia that manufactures electronic units for transport.
These microcircuits are intended for use in automobile engine management, navigation, and telematics systems. The implementation of such technologies will allow for an increase in the level of localization in the Russian automotive industry and a reduction in dependence on foreign components.
