Ability to retain mobile number across regions introduced in Russia

The Russian government has approved a resolution granting citizens the right to retain their mobile phone number when moving to another region. This innovation comes into effect on September 1st and allows subscribers to keep their number when changing their place of residence. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
To retain the number, it is sufficient to submit an application to the mobile operator. The application can be sent in person or remotely — via the operator's official website, the mobile number portability database operator portal, or the Russian 'Gosuslugi' public services portal.
Currently, although the number is retained when moving to another city, the subscriber continues to use the old tariff plan. This could significantly increase the cost of calls to subscribers in the new region.
According to the new rule, it is now possible to retain the number even when changing operators. This change is being implemented as part of the strategy for the development of the communication network until 2035.
Government representatives state that this step will make communication services more convenient and flexible. It will also help strengthen competition in the sector and create a favorable environment for subscribers.
