A non-flammable battery that can be charged over 10,000 times was created in the USA

PolyJoule, a company established under MIT, has introduced a new generation of 'self-extinguishing' batteries. During tests, the battery element was heated with a propane burner at 2000°C. Once the fire was extinguished, the battery did not explode and did not continue to burn, demonstrating the high safety level of the technology. Reports Ixbt.com.

Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, PolyJoule's product does not use reactive metals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. Instead, organic chemistry is used, namely a conductive polymer cathode and a salt-based liquid electrolyte. This approach significantly reduces the risk of fire and prevents the spread of flames between battery elements.

The new technology ensures not only safety but also high performance. Compared to first-generation batteries, energy density has increased tenfold, and the resource constitutes over 10,000 charging and power transmission cycles. Additionally, the lack of need for complex cooling systems makes production cheaper.

PolyJoule intends to target this development primarily at stationary systems such as solar power plants, industrial facilities, and backup power supplies. The company plans to start accepting orders from integrators and installation companies this year.
