Kioxia introduces BG8 SSD series for mainstream PCs
In brief

Kioxia has introduced the BG8 series, a new line of PCIe 5.0 SSDs designed to provide high-speed storage for mainstream consumer devices and ultra-thin laptops. Utilizing 8th-generation BiCS FLASH 3D TLC NAND, these drives achieve impressive sequential read speeds of up to 10,300 MB/s and write speeds of 10,000 MB/s. To ensure affordability, the series employs a DRAM-less architecture and will be offered in multiple M.2 form factors with capacities ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB. The new SSDs are scheduled to become available for purchase by the end of the current quarter.

The Japanese company Kioxia continues to expand its affordable data storage segment. The manufacturer has unveiled the new BG8 series SSD drives, which support the PCIe 5.0 interface and are designed for mainstream users. This was reported by 3dnews.ru.

These devices are intended to provide high speeds for a wide range of consumer systems, including thin and light laptops.

Kioxia BG8 drives are built on eighth-generation BiCS Flash chips with 3D TLC NAND cells. While the new models do not fully reach the maximum throughput of the PCIe 5.0 bus, they operate significantly faster than PCIe 4.0 models.

Specifically, sequential read speeds reach up to 10,300 MB per second, while write speeds reach up to 10,000 MB per second.

In order to reduce the product's cost, the manufacturer has omitted DRAM cache in these SSD models. Kioxia BG8 drives will be offered in M.2 2280, 2242, and 2230 form factors, with capacities ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB.

The new models are expected to go on sale by the end of the current quarter.
