Additionally, the ministry is developing a mechanism to introduce extra charges for international internet traffic for mobile users, following a previous proposal to charge operators for exceeding 15 GB of international traffic per month. The use of VPN applications has reportedly surged in Russia.

The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia announced that measures are being taken to combat the use of VPN services that do not comply with legislative requirements. This was stated in the ministry's official response to the Association of Telecommunications Companies. Ixbt.com reports on this.

According to the document, restrictions are being imposed on tools that provide access to prohibited resources in cooperation with authorized state bodies. At the same time, the ministry is developing a mechanism to introduce additional tariffs for international internet traffic for mobile network users.

Previously, it was proposed that telecommunications operators charge for the use of more than 15 GB of international traffic per month. Currently, the exact parameters of this mechanism are being studied by specialists.

A sharp increase in the download rate of VPN applications has been observed in Russia.
