Man in Tashkent scammed people with fake wedding promises
A man in Tashkent promised to organize weddings for residents but instead stole their money, the city’s police press service reported.

According to the authorities, the suspect worked as an administrator at one of the wedding venues. He accepted bookings, agreed on dates, helped plan the menu, and took advance payments. However, when customers arrived at the restaurant on the wedding day, they found the hall completely empty. The man managed to scam several people out of 66.3 million sums and $7,400.

“We arrived at the restaurant, entered the hall – the lights were off, tables were empty, and nothing was set up. I was in shock. It was already too late to arrange anything else. We had paid for a full wedding feast, but there was nothing,” one of the victims said.

The suspect explained that he rented the hall with the intention of becoming an entrepreneur. However, he had debts and borrowed 15-20 million sums from people, planning to repay them later. A criminal case has been opened under Article 168 (fraud), and an investigation is underway.
