Tashkent–Urgench flights to be doubled

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has ordered the number of flights from Tashkent to Urgench to be doubled, reports uz.kursiv.media. Private airlines are expected to be involved in these flights.

According to him, due to lack of competition, tickets for domestic flights on this route are expensive and sell out quickly. "In such a situation, not only foreigners but also locals prefer to travel abroad," the president noted.

Currently, 95% of domestic flights are operated by only two airlines: Uzbekistan Airways and Silk Avia. Private carriers mainly fly abroad, as domestic routes are not profitable for them.

At the meeting, all local airlines were instructed to develop a subsidy system for domestic flights.
