Sariosiyo airport reopens after 30-year closure

Sariosiyo airport reopens after 30-year closure
On May 30, Sariosiyo Airport in Surxondaryo region welcomed its first passenger flight after major renovations, Kursiv Media reported.

A Silk Avia flight from Tashkent was greeted with a ceremonial water arch. Passengers were welcomed with bread and traditional music. Flights from the capital to Sariosiyo will now operate twice a week.

The airport had been closed for 30 years. In 2023, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered its restoration. Renovations included a full upgrade of the runway, taxiways, and aircraft parking areas.

The terminal now accommodates up to 100 passengers. A test flight in late April confirmed the airport meets modern safety standards.
