Taxi zone limits violate workers’ rights — HND

Taxi zone limits violate workers’ rights — HND
A recent restriction on unlicensed taxi operations in Tashkent has triggered public outcry and legal concerns, xdp.uz reported.

The regulation limits taxi drivers to operating only within their registered district and neighboring areas. However, this contradicts Article 67 of Uzbekistan’s new Constitution.

According to the Constitution, the state must ensure a unified economic space and free movement of labor and services throughout the country.

Such restrictions hinder lawful self-employed drivers from freely conducting business, effectively violating their constitutional labor rights.

Article 42 guarantees every citizen the right to fair labor, freedom to choose a profession, and legal protection against unemployment.

In response, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (HND) has submitted a formal request to the Minister of Transport and invited him to a government hearing in parliament for clarification.
