On August 14, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on measures to expand waste recycling and improve efficiency in the sector. The discussion emphasized the need to update the system for collecting, transporting, and processing waste. New solutions will be implemented to improve both the quality of life for citizens and the environmental situation in the country.
According to officials, about a quarter of household waste consists of paper, plastic, rubber, glass, and textile residues. Recycling these types of raw materials could produce products worth at least 1 trillion soums annually. Plans are in place to expand the involvement of the private sector and foreign investors in this area.
It was also noted that there is significant potential in non-recyclable construction, chemical, electronic waste, and industrial oils. Introducing processing technologies for these materials could create jobs and increase economic efficiency.
It was stressed that waste collection services must fully satisfy public demand. For this purpose, each neighborhood will have an online system to track the arrival time and movement of waste collection vehicles. This is expected to save residents’ time and improve service quality.
A two-year program will also be developed to fully equip social institutions and neighborhoods with the necessary waste containers. The importance of instilling environmental awareness from kindergarten and integrating environmental protection topics into school curricula was highlighted.
