The introduction of a penalty point system in Uzbekistan has reduced traffic violations by 41%, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Road Safety Service.
The point system has been in effect since June 1, 2024. In the first three months, around 69,000 drivers received penalty points: 63,900 got between 0.5 and 1 point, 4,976 received up to 2 points, and 189 got 3 points.
Additionally, 14 drivers accumulated 4 points and 4 others received 5 points. Meanwhile, 9.3 million drivers did not receive any points at all — showing a notable improvement in road discipline.
While 285,000 violations were recorded in summer 2024, only 167,000 were reported in the same period this year. Driver-related accidents also dropped by more than a third — down to 338 incidents.
