The First Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan, Rustam Akhmedov, has died

The first Minister of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Colonel General Rustam Akhmedov, has died, the Ministry of Defense reported.

The deceased was born on November 10, 1943, in the Baghdad district of the Fergana region. In 1965, he graduated from the Tashkent Higher Tank Command School, and in 1985, from the Military Academy of Armored Tank Troops.

He began his service in 1966 as a tank platoon commander, then rose to senior command positions. From 1991 to 1992, he served as Minister of Defense and Commander of the National Guard, and from 1992 to 1997, as Minister of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Rustam Akhmedov served not only in the defense system, but also as the Minister of Emergency Situations in 1997-1998. He retired in 1998 and served as an advisor to the Minister of Defense from 2018 to 2020.

He was awarded numerous awards and orders: the Certificate of Merit in 1993, the Order of Glory II degree in 1995, and the Order of Friendship in 2018.
