Finland’s President Alexander Stubb will pay his first official visit to Uzbekistan at the end of October. According to the Finnish leader’s press service, the visit will take place on October 30–31.
On October 31, Friday, official talks between President Alexander Stubb of Finland and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan will be held in Tashkent. The discussions will focus on a new stage of cooperation between the two countries, trade and investment relations, and global geopolitical issues.
The visit’s program includes a business seminar, a lecture at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, and a meeting with foreign policy experts. These events aim to strengthen economic and academic ties between Finland and Uzbekistan.
The Finnish delegation will include Member of Parliament Ville Skinnari, chairman of the parliamentary friendship group with Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of major Finnish companies. The partnership is expected to create new opportunities in “green energy,” technological investments, and education.
It is noted that the last visit of a Finnish president to Uzbekistan took place in 1992 — by former president Mauno Koivisto. After 33 years, this visit is expected to open a new chapter in relations between the two nations.
Ahead of the visit, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a phone conversation with President Alexander Stubb to discuss the development of trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen friendship and reliable partnership between their countries.
Alexander Stubb’s trip to Tashkent is regarded as not only an important diplomatic event but also a major step toward deepening long-term strategic relations between Finland and Uzbekistan.
