Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector is demonstrating steady growth in melon and watermelon production. According to the results of the first three quarters of 2025, a new leader has emerged.
According to data from the National Statistics Committee, Jizzakh region harvested 280,230 tons and claimed the top spot in the country. Overall, throughout the country, all types of farms produced 2.1 million tons of melons and watermelons from January to September.
This figure shows a 15.4% increase compared to the same period last year, i.e., 2024. Such growth indicates steady development in the sector and that the nation’s food reserves are continuing to be strengthened.
Analysis of regional indicators reveals strong competition among producers. Following Jizzakh region, Syrdarya region is in second place with a harvest of 276,475 tons.
The top three is rounded out by Kashkadarya (265,186 tons) and Surkhandarya (262,018 tons) regions. However, in some regions, the results were relatively lower.
Tashkent region produced 60,288 tons, while Navoi region produced 73,340 tons, recording the lowest figures. The harvest in other regions is as follows: - Republic of Karakalpakstan – 157,512 tons.
- Khorezm region – 127,537 tons. - Fergana region – 126,551 tons.
- Andijan region – 141,375 tons. - Bukhara region – 150,866 tons.
- Samarkand region – 112,910 tons. - Namangan region – 99,462 tons.
It should be noted that more than 56% of the total harvest falls to the share of dehkan farms. This shows the important role of small and private farms in supplying the domestic market and ensuring food security.
Uzbekistan is considered the homeland of melon varieties. Some varieties, such as the famous "Mirzachul melon,” are known even outside the country for their unique taste and aroma.
The Central Asian region is historically one of the centers of origin and diversity of this crop.
