This autumn in Uzbekistan has been characterized by low precipitation, and in some regions even without rain, which has a serious impact on agriculture, the balance of nature, and the lives of the population. Therefore, an important initiative was put forward to pray for rain, which is a symbol of sustenance and abundance throughout the country, seeking repentance and supplication with closeness to Allah. Under the leadership of the Chairman of the Board of Muslims of Uzbekistan, Mufti Nuriddin Kholiqnazar, it was determined that on November 28, 2025, after Friday prayers, the Istiqma prayer will be performed in all mosques. This was reported by the press service of the department.
According to historical sources, in Islam, during droughts, lack of water, or prolonged famines, the Istiqma prayer was performed, and its effect was manifested many times. It is narrated that when there was no rain, our Prophet peace be upon him would turn towards the qibla with the congregation and pray two rakats of istisqa prayer. Additionally, hadith books extensively explain the virtue of this prayer, the acceptance of prayers, and the spiritual and social significance of society's collective prayer.
It is noted that on Istika day, additional charitable works will be carried out in central mosques and shrines of regions and districts-cities. Animals are slaughtered and distributed to needy, low-income, and struggling families. This practice serves, firstly, to strengthen the spirit of charity, and secondly, to strengthen the unity of the people.
Additionally, the religious administration announced that students and teachers of Islamic educational institutions will complete reading of the great muhaddith Imam Bukhari's work "Sahih Bukhari" in the form of "khatm kutub" by Friday. It was noted that there are also legends about rain falling by Allah's will when this work was recited during a drought in history.
Uzbek imams who are on Umrah pilgrimage were also recommended to perform the Istiqma prayer with their groups in the Two Holy Mosques - Mecca and Medina. This will further strengthen the prayers of Muslims worldwide for Uzbekistan.
In conclusion, the Istika prayer and charity events held simultaneously throughout the country on November 28 are seen as a major spiritual step aimed at eliminating drought in Uzbekistan, strengthening the spirit of convergence, unity, and repentance.
