Uzbekistan launches its first-ever population census

Starting January 15, Uzbekistan launched the population and agricultural census process. This large-scale campaign will run until February 28 and will help create the most accurate “big picture” of the country’s demographic and agricultural indicators.
According to the Ministry of Justice, state bodies and organizations must ensure that all employees in their system register via the census.stat.uz portal from January 15 to January 31, 2026. Registration is carried out through the OneID system. In other words, the process is not “paper and notebooks” — it is as digital and structured as possible.
According to official information, the census will be conducted in two stages:
- January 15–31 — citizens census.stat.uz register online via the platform;
- February 4–28 — specially trained staff go door to door to collect population and agriculture-related data.
As part of the census, accurate data will be collected on key areas such as age, education level, employment status, migration processes and more. In the agricultural section, basic indicators such as land use, livestock farming and similar metrics will be covered. In short, the state will get data-driven answers to “how many people, where, and how they live” — and future decisions will rely on it.
Officials emphasize that all collected data will be kept confidential and only used for statistical purposes . The census questionnaire consists of 71 questionsand broadly covers key indicators of people’s lifestyles and agriculture.
Most importantly, the population census is being conducted in the history of independent Uzbekistan for the first time . That’s why it shouldn’t be seen as “just a survey” — it will become a core database affecting budget planning, infrastructure, jobs, education, and agricultural policy.
