A multi-billion dollar prize line has opened for Olympic winners in Uzbekistan

Another example of great encouragement for young people pursuing science in Uzbekistan has attracted public attention. During an open dialogue between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and youth on February 24, 2026, schoolboy Daler Rakhimov announced that he had received more than 1 billion soums in prizes after winning the International Chemistry Olympiad. Official and nearby sources also noted that a comprehensive meeting was held on February 24 at the Kuksaroy residence.
Although this news surprised many, it is not accidental. Because, in accordance with the decision adopted in 2024, a procedure has been introduced for awarding high-performing students in prestigious international subject Olympiads with large monetary prizes. Sources indicate that this system is aimed at supporting talented youth who have achieved high results in international Olympiads in mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, and computer science.
According to the decree, gold medalists will receive a reward of 2500 BRV, silver medalists - 1500 BRV, and bronze medalists - 1000 BRV. Since the BRV is currently set at 412,000 soums, the prize for a gold medal is 1 billion 30 million soums, for a silver medal - 618 million soums, and for a bronze medal - 412 million soums. It has been confirmed in various sources that the amount of 412,000 soums of the BRV will be in effect from 2025 and will continue to be applied in 2026.
One of the most important aspects is that this incentive is not limited to the student himself. According to this procedure, the coaches and heads of the national teams who trained the winners will also be rewarded according to the established standards. This shows that in the country, serious attention is paid not only to the result, but also to the recognition of the work, patience, and contribution of teachers and mentors behind this result. The practice of awarding Olympic winners and their coaches at the state level will also be highlighted in 2025.
In short, this innovation has a broader meaning than a single student's personal success. This is a sign that great doors are opening for young people who have studied, worked, and worthily defended the honor of Uzbekistan in the international arena. Now it is clear that winning the Olympiad is not only an honor, but also a great material incentive. Such a high assessment of science will undoubtedly inspire many more talented young men and women to new victories.
