IAEA to assist Uzbekistan in developing nuclear medicine

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has officially confirmed its readiness to assist Uzbekistan in advancing its nuclear medicine sector and integrating modern medical technologies. This commitment was communicated through a formal letter sent to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Vienna. Reports Podrobno.uz.
In the document, the agency expressed its willingness to participate in drafting a strategic roadmap and a national strategy for this vital healthcare sector. The IAEA highlighted that Uzbekistan's comprehensive approach to nuclear medicine is both timely and highly significant. These upcoming projects are expected to strengthen the national healthcare system, broaden public access to essential oncological care, and significantly elevate the quality of medical diagnostics and treatments.
The collaborative support will be delivered through the agency's technical cooperation programs and the Joint Action Plan for 2025 to 2027. A major focus will be placed on providing expert guidance and consulting to ensure that the industry's development aligns with international safety standards and global best practices. Furthermore, the IAEA showed great interest in expanding its partnership with Uzbekistan in specialized fields such as radiotherapy, radiology, and radiopharmacy.
This deepening cooperation is anticipated to modernize the country's medical infrastructure and facilitate the introduction of advanced therapeutic methods. Additionally, oncology specialists for the newly established Republican Center of Oncology and Radiology in Tashkent will receive professional training in close collaboration with the IAEA.
