Employee rights are strengthening, demands on employers are increasing

A new legislative initiative aimed at making labor relations in Uzbekistan fairer and safer has become the center of discussion. The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis approved in the first reading a bill aimed at protecting employees, preventing harassment and violence in the workplace, and strengthening the financial liability of employers.
The new reforms are significant primarily because they aim to ensure a safe working environment and strengthen the rights of employees.
According to the bill, labor legislation will now directly prohibit any form of violence and harassment in the work process. Experts believe this norm could be an important step in combating psychological pressure, threats, and unfair treatment in workplaces.
The document establishes not only prohibitive norms but also clear mechanisms for preventing such situations and protecting victimized employees. This means that in the future, workers may have greater legal guarantees to defend their rights.
Another important innovation in the bill concerns issues related to wage delays. Under the new procedure, if employers do not pay salaries on time, they will be required to pay financial compensation to the employee for each day of delay.
This is expected to encourage businesses and organizations to take financial discipline more seriously. Experts believe this change could help reduce problems related to delays in workers' income.
At the same time, the law has not yet been fully adopted. Currently, the document has been approved in the first reading; it must pass two more readings, be approved by the Senate, and enter into force after the President's signature.
Experts assess this initiative as an important step aimed at prioritizing human interests in labor relations. Especially at a time when problems related to workplace pressure and salary delays are widely discussed, the new legislation could be an additional protective tool for employees.
