It will be “very, very, very difficult” for Ukraine to survive without U.S. military assistance — both now, as it tries to repel a large-scale Russian invasion, and in the future, after the war is over. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in an interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press program published on its website on Saturday, February 15. The interview was recorded in Munich, where the security conference is taking place.

“I don’t want to think about fighting Russia without American help,” Zelensky told host Kristen Welker. “I don’t want to think that we can’t be a strategic partner,” he added.

Zelensky: Putin wants to lift some sanctions against the backdrop of a ceasefire

Zelensky said that if the United States does not continue to provide it with military assistance, Kiev will face another major Russian attack in the future. According to the Ukrainian leader, Russian President Vladimir Putin is not coming to the negotiating table to end the war, but to achieve a ceasefire that would lift some international sanctions against Russia and allow it to regroup its military forces.

“He (Putin) really wants this. He wants to take a break, prepare, conduct exercises, lift some sanctions against the backdrop of a ceasefire,” the Ukrainian leader said confidently.
